Gracie Barra New Mexico’s Rafael “Barata” Freitas selected for The Ultimate Fighter Reality Show

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Gracie Barra New Mexico Professor Rafael “Barata” Freitas was selected for the 18th installment of the hit reality television show, “The Ultimate Fighter” on Fox’s newest channel Fox Sports 1. Barata is one of 16 bantamweights challenging for a contract in mixed martial arts premier promotion, The Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“TUF 18” will premiere with a two-hour show on Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. MT on Fox Sports 1.

Professor Barata will take an undefeated record of 6-0-1 in to the tournament. The Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt has finished five out of his six victories by submission including three rear-naked chokes, one Guillotine and his very own, “Barataplata.”

Barata was able to showcase is skills in front of UFC President Dana White, UFC Fight Maker Joe Silva in Las Vegas, Nev. on April 15, 2013 and was selected as one of the final 16 contestants that will appear on the televised show.

This season will be the first time that two female coaches will be in control as UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and rival Miesha Tate train 16 female bantamweights and 16 male bantamweights. Rousey and Tate are scheduled for a rematch at UFC 168 on December 28 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Rousey won the first meeting via first-round armbar.
